The upper sections of Bowood House are only accessible via a staircase. Please contact us for further clarification. Wheelchairs are available at Admissions on a first-come-first-served basis.
The Woodland Garden is unsuitable for those with mobility issues due to uneven terrain.
Please note the following before visiting:
- Please follow signs and keep to marked paths. Please do not litter and leave gates as you find them. If in doubt, close a gate. Signs specifying ‘no entry’ exist either for the purposes of security, public safety or nature conservation, and must be respected.
- Dogs are welcome to use public footpaths throughout the Estate but are not permitted (except registered assistance dogs) within the House & Gardens or Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort. Owners are requested to bag and remove dog mess, disposing of this in the next suitable litter bin.
- Respect the natural environment by not removing any plants and flora. Do not encroach on wild animals or birdlife and keep dogs under close control. Livestock and wild animals can be dangerous if they are surrounded.
- Bicycles are not permitted within the Estate, other than for travelling on designated access roads for the purposes of a visit to the House & Gardens or Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort (from the relevant gate up to the entrance points only). Please use the bike racks provided.
- Please comply with road speed signs for your own and others safety. If there is no road sign or you are unsure, vehicles should not exceed 20mph on Estate roads or 5mph around pedestrians.
- The smoking of cigarettes (or e-cigarettes and vaping devices) is strictly prohibited anywhere within the House & Gardens or within buildings at the Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort.
- Visitors are permitted to take photographs and video recordings of themselves while at Bowood, provided these are solely for private use and are not sold, used or otherwise exploited for any commercial or public purpose. All other photography requires prior approval from the Estate. Even where for private use, visitors should be careful about taking photographs or video recordings of vulnerable people and those not wishing to be included.
- Drones/UAVs are not permitted to take-off from or land on the Estate without prior approval from the Estate Director or Hotel General Manager, as appropriate. Regardless of where a drone takes-off or lands, users must maintain a reasonable height (at Bowood we request not less than 100ft) and must always be kept within the operator’s full visual line of sight. Deliberate breaches of privacy (such as low flying or intrusion into private areas) may constitute harassment or nuisance, and will be reported to the police, in the interests of maintaining a safe and secure environment for all at Bowood.
It is a crime under the Air Navigation Order 2016 to fly within close range of people without appropriate permissions and documentation; this includes an Operator ID (issued by the CAA, renewable annually which must be visibly attached to the UAV in question) and for drones over 250g, a Flyer ID (issued by the CAA, renewable every 5-years).
- Bowood is an historic landscape and to preserve this, the Estate does not permit metal detecting on any land.
- Beware deep and cold water, particularly Bowood Lake. The Estate has a strict no swimming or boating policy (including kayaks or similar equipment), other than for authorised events.
- CCTV cameras are widely used to assist in the management and operation of the Estate. We adhere to the Surveillance Camera Code of Practice and guiding principles.
- The countryside is vulnerable to fire, especially during dry weather. A small spark can cause wildfires and devastate important wildlife habitats. The Estate has a strict policy of no BBQs or campfires, other than during authorised events.
